Well, I've researched all of the candidates for the Democratic Nomination.
In the course of doing so, I've released three things:
1) Not a one of the Democratic candidates should ever come near the White House.
2) Research is exhausting.
3) I hate politics.
The third one was something I kind of knew already. Politicians are usually extremely shady, evasive, and petty. Some exceptions have only one of the three, and very few are actually good people.
Politics is a game of attacking a person in order to make yourself look better. I've lost what little interest I had in learning about that.
So since John Kerry is pretty much a lock to be the Democratic nominee, I doubt I'll bother to analyze the other candidates. If a viable opponent exists after Super Tuesday, I'll reconsider. Otherwise, I'm not wasting my time.
I'll go ahead and do a QnD on each candidate right now, letting you know why they shouldn't be the President. (Note: they all want the government to run the health care system.)
In order of the results of New Hampshire:
Al Sharpton: Wants abortions to be legal. All the time. No matter how far along the pregnancy is. If you agree with him (and I'll put a stop to THAT with my next entry), consider that Sharpton will also only appoint pro-choice Supreme Court judges. Sorry, that's not how the justice system is supposed to work. Judges INTERPRET the constitutionality of the law, they do not make it. Also, he wants to repeal ALL of Bush's tax cuts. And hey, gotta love people who use race for their own benefit.
Dennis Kucinich: Wants to remove all of the profit from the health care system. Um, profit=growth. Profit=advancement of medical technology. Universal everything! Let the government do the work for you! Abortions for everyone!
Joseph Lieberman: Supports the government's 'right' to unconstitutionally intervene in moral decisions that belong to the people. Wants to increase taxes for the top 2% of income earners. You only have to make over roughly $100,000 to fit in that category, by the way.
John Edwards: Purports to have represented the common man in his fight against legally legitmate (albeit morally questionable) businesses. Yes, and how much did you make doing so? And why do you have that much money from those decisions, when it would be better served going to, you know, the VICTIMS?! Believes a woman's right to choose is constitutionally protected (this is almost totally false).
Wesley Clark: A couple of military compatriots have raised questions about his moral judgement and character (the military is a tight-knit group that rarely publically goes after one of their own). Spectacularly botched the Kosovo operation he was in charge of. After announcing his candidacy, took two ideologically opposed positions on the war within a 24 hour period. Before the war, laid out one of the strongest cases presented by anybody for the U.S's actions in Iraq. Opposes the war now.
Howard Dean: Covered in previous entries. Suffice to say, cannot remain calm enough in times of stress to be considered for the Presidency.
John Kerry: Will be covered more throughly if he wins. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that he's a proven hero. That being said, for now I'll simply say that anybody who votes against a bill that would outlaw a proceedure in which a baby's body is allowed to be born, but then is stabbed in the back of the neck before the head passes through should never be allowed to come close to ANY elected office, much less the Presidency. The fact that he's inconsistent as all hell is a sidebar.
Blech. Blech to all of them.
I've learned through studying all of these people that I have no taste for politics.
I've also learned that my passion for philosophy cannot be abated even by the cynicism of government. So I'l keep talking about philosophical stuff here, while leaving the political bashing, accusational nonsense to Al Franken.
If you're interested in finding out more about the cnadidates for yourself, www.vote-smart.org is an excellent, completely non-biased source of information. It also has a test that will match you with a candidate that supports the issues you do. Check it out.
